Snaefell 621m, Isle of Man, UK. World Country HP. After a two year absence due to covid and the obvious lack of travel itβs good to good to get out to the Isle of Man to do Snaefell. At 621m itβs not only an isolated 600m peak but listed as a world country high point on Peakbagger. This makes it no 25/256 for me. Not the hardest of hikes and a bit novel having a coffee shop at the top and to see tourists getting off the electric tram. Hey ho but a great hike on a stunning day with beautiful views and other interesting things to see on route. Route Statistics: 14km, 676m of ascent in a carb fuelled 5hrs 45min with two Mochas, a Meringue slice and a cream and jam scone!

There are four obelisks along the Isle of Manβs Raad ny Foillan coastal path. This one at Ramsey is the most northerly of the four. It was the third obelisk that I encountered along the coastal path when I hiked it in August 2021.

The Old Norse definition of Snaefell is Snow Mountain and at 2,037 feet (621 m) above sea level, it's the only 'mountain' on the Isle of Man. It is serviced by the Snaefell Mountain Railway and it is possible to get a tram up to the summit of the mountain. On the day we ascended, we walked from Black Hut to the north east and descended to the Millenium Way in the west. There is a local saying that you can see seven kingdoms from the summit of Snaefell - 'Mann, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Neptune and Heaven'.

Black Hut (also known as Shepherd's Hut or Stonebreakers Hut) is situated to the northeast of Snaefell on the Isle of Man TT Course. It's at the start of the famous Verandah section of the TT route on the A18 Mountain Road. The hut itself was demolished in the 1980s but the bend still retains the name. Near here is the John Smyth Memorial Shelter.
