August 15, 2026, Ellertshäuser See Nature Biotope

The landscape protection area around the "Ellertshäuser See", the largest lake in Lower Franconia, consists mainly of forest areas with near-natural deciduous-coniferous mixed forest with a high proportion of deciduous trees. Due to the renaturation of the southwestern inflow (Sauerquellenbach), rare plant species (e.g. marsh grasses) and amphibians have been able to spread. Reed beds grow in the sedimentation zones and meadowsweet tall herbs can also be found. The landscape protection area also offers an optimal retreat for wildlife. Rare bird species, such as great crested grebes, tufted ducks and coots, have found a habitat here. In addition, various species of dragonflies and a large population of common toads, common frogs, and alpine newts and great crested newts can be found. (Schweinfurter Oberland)

Cycle path signs are located at intersections and indicate the direction of your destination and the distance. The signs are also supplemented with small pictograms of the themed routes. It's good to know where to go if you don't have a navigation system.

The Burgstall Rottenstein is hidden on the southern edge of the Haßberge, not far from Schweinfurt, and is an insider tip for anyone who enjoys hiking on historical paths through quiet forests. Between leaves and rocks, you will find the remains of an old castle complex, now overgrown with moss and wood ferns. The atmosphere here is uniquely peaceful, and an information board provides details about this historically significant place.
