The settlement's origins date back at least to Roman times: some scholars believe the name derives from the Latin "Forum Laeta" (beautiful market), indicating the presence of an ancient livestock market and its favorable location along the routes between the Liri and Comino Valleys. Forglieta was inhabited until the 1970s, when the last 80 or so residents moved to larger towns due to depopulation and the closure of services such as schools and shops.
