Villa Bittner in Kohlern was built in 1896 by the Bolzano city architect Johann Bittner as a summer house for his family. It is an early example of the Heimatstil with turrets, bay windows, decorated wooden construction, and rich interior decor. The house served Bittner as a retreat and is considered an important testimony to alpine building culture around 1900. Besides this villa, Bittner created others in Bolzano that adopt the same style with artisanal wood architecture and landscape integration. The Heimatstil emerged around 1900 as a response to industrialization and drew on regional building traditions. Source: https://www.diewanderer.it/herbstwanderung-kohlern-seit/

At the intersection coming from Karneid lies this nice little chapel. A very beautiful, definitely challenging 1000m ascent with little traffic for this area...

The Adige Cycle Path had been on my to-do list for a long time. At the beginning of November, on a cloudy and rainy Saturday, the time had finally come. Hardly any other cyclists – plenty of space. Perfect! The cycle path is better developed than many roads in Italy, with sections of excellent asphalt! And of course – the most beautiful Mediterranean scenery.
