Posted in Salento Byzantine collection komoot.it/collection/1811756/-salento-bizantino - Nothing to say, in terms of hiding, the Basilian monks persecuted by iconoclastic struggles and by the Saracens were commendable. It took me some time to find a cave hidden by vegetation. In reality, here we are talking about more caves but I have found only one and I cannot say if there are others. The passage of the Basilian monks is evident given the incision of a cross on the internal wall. Not vandalizing but enhancing these places would be desirable in my opinion.

The church of the Madonna degli Angeli was built in 1902, in its place previously stood an ancient church dating back, most likely, to the 11th-12th century. When the district was still an uninhabited fiefdom, called Falnese or Fascese, the ancient building served as a real rural chapel, fulfilling the spiritual needs of the inhabitants of the farm, too far from the Nociglia farmhouse.
