With the wind in the right direction, you can really pick up speed, otherwise you might have to work a bit😅

Super asphalted, hardly any traffic, if the wind is really late, you can whizz along

Amidst the modern ugliness that has arisen all around the paths leading here, the palace has a refreshingly "old-fashioned" feel, and the palace park is filled with numerous impressive trees. Do you only know thuja hedges as ugly property fences? In the palace's listed park, the thuja trees will show you how impressive and magnificent they can actually look! By the way: Thuja trees were introduced to Germania by the Romans because they wanted to see how well they grew there and whether the wood could be used for any beneficial purpose. Incidentally, the plant is poisonous and can cause skin rashes.

Palais Rastede The origins of the palace lie in a country house that was converted for Detlef Hans Graf von Schmettau after 1788. Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig acquired the building in 1822 to convert it into a hereditary prince's palace. Nestled in a small park in the style of an English landscape garden, the palace is located opposite Rastede Castle. The ensemble, which includes several outbuildings and the surrounding palace garden, is one of the most important cultural monuments in the Oldenburg region and is therefore also one of the most representative buildings in the Ammerland district. After the Second World War, the palace was initially used to house Canadian soldiers and then refugees from the German eastern territories. The main and outbuildings were later rented out. Since the 1970s, the municipality of Rastede has leased the palace and, as time went on, increasingly more parts of the surrounding grounds.
