The Cradle

Highlight • Summit

From the Col du Berceau, located at an altitude of 1,050 meters, you have the first incredible views of the town of Menton and the sea. There is in fact a flat area at this pass, surrounded by two peaks, the Roc de Restaud and that of Orméa. The whole thing unequivocally evokes the shape of a cradle.

So it’s a cozy little nest with lawn and pine forest that awaits you. The place really invites you to sit back and relax before the last stage which leads to Plan du Lion and then to Garavan.

Roc de l'Orméa

Highlight • Summit

On the GR52, a must do detour that offers a 360 amazing view. The trail is easy to Finn’s and not that steep. It is often the target for hikes from Castellar, or a good moment in the way down from Sospel to Menton.

Sanctuary of Madonna della Neve

Highlight • Religious Site

The first half of the hike involves climbing a mountain. Therefore, the route goes uphill a lot and is often in the blazing sun. When you are on top of the mountain you can feel very proud and enjoy the beautiful view!!
In the section that follows you can see the beautiful mountains around Ventimiglia on a straight stretch and enjoy the tranquility of nature (this was my favorite section!! ).
The descent afterwards is very steep in parts, but very manageable, since the hiking trail is mostly paved.
Overall, the hike is a lot of fun, because you almost always have the city of Ventimiglia in view and you can see what you've done afterwards!! We recommend :)

Grammont, 1400 m above the sea

Highlight • Summit

A must-see peak in the region, offering a sublime view of France and Italy, the sea, the Mercantour... a shorter route from Castellar, but I recommend the climb from Monti which offers sea views along the way. I also recommend going down via Italy, the balcony path is superb.

Demanding climb, rough terrain, but what a reward up there… 🌄 Between sky, sea, and relief, the scenery is simply exceptional. A hike that puts you in your place and reminds you why we love the mountains 💪

The summit of Grammondo can be reached by three possible routes: 1. From Bevera-Collabassa, climbing a military road that is quite rugged at times; 2. From France, the easiest route; 3. From Sospel, along the old Jewish trail, which was used to transport Jews persecuted in France. But this third route is only a descent, as far as I remember.

Arrived at the col du Berceau, you will have to climb the 2 peaks, on its right and its left, which are to be done absolutely, and transcend the hike.
