Tips from the Community

December 19, 2024, Wooden Boardwalks at Enterprise South Nature Park

The trails at Enterprise South Nature Park are truly a gem in the Chattanooga area. The trail system features some biking specific (and some hiking specific) trails, though all users are welcome to use the biking trails. The loops are all well-marked and easy to follow, and many trails intersect, allowing cyclists to create loops of different distances.

The Raccoon Mountain Reservoir trail network includes over 20 miles of singletrack trails interconnecting all around the reservoir. Some trails are more difficult than others, but basically all the trails are open to both foot-traffic and mountain bikes so be aware of other trail users. There are a variety of trailheads and loops/routes you can do, but the most common loop is the loop that circles the entire reservoir.

Some people consider the trails at Baker Creek Preserve to be the "entrance to Knoxville's Urban Wilderness". Like pretty much all the trails in the Urban Wilderness system, the trails at Baker Creek are well-kept, well-marked, and frequented by mountain bikers. All trails are also open to hikers and runners, so be aware of other trail users.

Percy Warner Park is home to a multitude of different trails. From paved greenways to mountain bike specific singletrack trails, the trails in the park are well-marked, well-kept, and easy to follow. Some trails are more difficult than others, but they are marked as such. There are a few trail features, but most of the trails are rolling dirt, grass, and gravel trails through the woods and through open fields.

The trails at Lock 4 Park are top-notch mountain bike trails. There aren't a lot of hills, but there are a load of natural and man-made obstacles and features on the trail. The trails are super popular and even utilized for some races during the year.

The trails at Chickasaw Trace Park are undoubtedly the best bike trails anywhere near Columbia, Tennessee. There are a ton of trail signs out on the trails to indicate what directions you should ride, which trails are expert/intermediate/beginner, and maps to let you know where you are. The trails are popular for expert riders and beginners alike. The man-made features on the paths are well-kept and a good challenge for any rider. Be aware that the lengthy "Trail of Tears" path is the most difficult trail in the park; there are plenty of entrances and exits for that trail section, though.

August 15, 2023, Grindstone Ridge

Grindstone Ridge is a short section of the greater Tesla's Revenge route, which is a trail loop at Raccoon Mountain that features some of the more difficult and technical single track trails offered in the park. There are some steep uphill sections and some rock features that require some expert riding skills, but you can avoid the really tricky stuff for the most part. The downhills are usually in great condition and can get pretty steep in spots, too.
