From its discovery on February 18, 1930, until the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined the term "planet" on August 24, 2006, Pluto was considered the ninth and outermost planet in the solar system. After more and more plutoids—similarly sized Kuiper Belt bodies—were discovered, a more precise definition was developed. Since then, it has been classified as a dwarf planet. Source: Wikipedia

The "Max Valier" Observatory is an EU Millennium Project for the year 2000. Initial planning began earlier, so construction began in June 2000. The official opening took place two years later. The cost of €500,000 was covered 90% by the South Tyrolean provincial government and 10% by the South Tyrolean Savings Bank Foundation. The observatory is managed by the Max Valier Amateur Astronomers Association on behalf of the municipality of Cornedo di Cornedo. Source: https://www.sternwarte.it/geschichte/

A lovely, cozy restaurant with a wonderful setting and a beautiful view. The food was delicious, with friendly service and a really personable and friendly host with witty remarks. We haven't been so well entertained in a long time. Absolutely fantastic and highly recommended. Holm

The sky above the Eggental In 2012, the first European star village was built in the Eggental: Since then, the villages of the municipality of Karneid have taken visitors on an adventurous journey into space. In Gummer, for example, there is a planetarium, an observatory, a solar observatory and also a planetary path that bring the sky down to earth - or, symbolically, people up. In Steinegg, meanwhile, you can live in heaven in the specialized accommodations. In many hotel rooms there are telescopes, constellations, sky windows above the beds and the absolute highlight is the Apollo 11 lunar module on a 1:1 scale - heavenly dreams are guaranteed. The all-round astronomical offer in the star village is framed by special events. Since autumn 2022 there has been a new path of the stars that connects the two star villages of Gummer & Steinegg. With mascot Luxi it is possible to delve into the secrets of the universe. If you are interested in astronomy, are fascinated by the cosmos or would like to take an authentic trip into the sky, light years away, then the Star Village in the municipality of Karneid is the right place for you!

Here, at this wonderful vantage point, is the 5th station of the Path of the Stars. Together with the mascot Luxi, you will learn how to best orient yourself in the night sky and how easy it is to find the relatively inconspicuous but important North Star in the night sky. In addition to a great view of the village of Steinegg and the unique mountain formations of the Schlern and Rosengarten, you can linger at this great picnic spot and simply enjoy yourself.
