Old tram station and original departure of the horse tram, then steam tram - bombed during WWII in the Kraaigemstraat (see chapel there) - later local railways (red buses) and after the merger of the green (national railways) and red buses into "De Lijn" first orange buses, later white with yellow-gray stripes logo). As you can see, this location has currently been converted into a home. This cycle path runs on the old railway from Eeklo to Zelzate, later the trains were replaced by green buses (national railways), on which was the letter "B" in a horizontal oval, this bus drove from Eeklo to Zelzate and back. From Eeklo you could then take the train or bus to Ghent.

The Gezusterskreken form a creek system in the north of the East Flemish municipality of Assenede in the Meetjesland (Meetjeslands creek area). The Gezusterskreeks consist of the Grote Kil and the Kleine Kil, which are in line with each other but are separated by a dam, over which the Gezustersstraat runs. The creeks are located in the Sint-Albertpolder, which was diked in 1612, during which the Scheurhoekdijk was constructed. In 1663 and again in 1690, the Sint-Pieterspolder was diked, causing the Scheurhoekdijk to lose its function as a primary sea defense. The current Belgian-Dutch border here follows the route of the Scheurhoekdijk. The area is European protected as part of the Natura 2000 area 'Polders' Source Wikipedia

These two creeks were washed out in the winter of 1808 - 1809. An ideal stop to press the pause button. Rest benches invite you to enjoy the play of many water birds.

Grote and Kleine Kilkreek are an ideal stop for a picnic or to take a rest. These are remnants of soil washed away as a result of medieval storms that broke the dikes. The dikes were restored and the creeks are silent witnesses in the landscape. Don't forget your binoculars because you can spot many water birds here.
