Take time to go off the trail to the bird hides and vantage points around the water. The route is best in spring before the nettles take over the path in summer!

The inscription is a bit faded now, but reads: The footprint of our ancestors Familiar as our own faces Remote as fossils Written on clay And washed away Over & over Over and over For more info about the Songline see: https://www.luphen.org.uk/walks/peddars_way/norfolk_songline.htm

Standard village pub, nothing much to say.

The fantastic bailey gate here reminds me of a similar specimen I saw in Belgium at Veurne. Not far from here is the Red Lion Hostel which is run by a 90 year old lady called Alison, wonderful place to stay if you get the chance.

Lovely crossing to the south of Castle Acre if you come in following the Peddars way, there is a view out to the old Monastery.

A wonderful little pub that is the centre of life in this village, it often has guest food vans that do amazing food, when were there in September 2023 there was Marg and Rita's Pizza Van, very nice indeed. https://www.facebook.com/margandritas https://www.facebook.com/hockham.eagle/?locale=en_GB
