Doors open and definitely worth exploring - look for the frieze on the Northern wall of Mary, with her train held by angels. Was whitewashed over in the Reformation

An impressive medieval castle with beautiful gardens. It's worth a visit. You can experience where Queen Victoria herself visited and imagine how the royals would dine when they were here. The historic cathedral is also truly worth seeing!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there many circular walks available around Climping?

Yes, Climping offers a good selection of circular walks that allow you to experience its coastal and countryside scenery without retracing your steps. Many routes combine a walk along the River Arun with a return path along the beach. A great example is the Climping Beach & West Beach Local Nature Reserve loop, which is an easy 6.8 km circuit.

Can I bring my dog on the trails?

Climping is generally a dog-friendly area for walks, especially along the beaches and public footpaths. The open spaces are great for dogs, but be mindful of seasonal restrictions on certain parts of the beach and keep them under control near farmland and the fragile dune ecosystems.

What are the trails like for family hikes with children?

The predominantly flat terrain makes Climping suitable for families. The beaches offer plenty of space for kids to run around. For a manageable and engaging walk, consider the Littlehampton Promenade – Littlehampton Lifeboat Station loop. It's an easy 6.8 km route with plenty to see.

Where can I park to start a walk near Climping Beach?

There is parking available at Climping Beach, which serves as a convenient starting point for many coastal and circular walks. It's a popular spot, so arriving earlier in the day is recommended, especially on sunny weekends. Always check local signage for any parking fees or time restrictions.

What is the terrain like on the hikes around Climping?

The terrain is mostly flat and easy to navigate. Hikes typically feature a mix of shingle and sand beaches, coastal paths, grassy tracks alongside the River Arun, and footpaths through open farmland. The lack of significant hills makes it accessible for most fitness levels.

Are there any particularly scenic or challenging hikes?

For scenery, the coastal paths offer expansive sea views, especially the Littlehampton Promenade route. If you're looking for a longer, more challenging day out, the Goring Greensward and Beach – Littlehampton Promenade loop is a 24 km hike that will test your endurance.

How many hiking trails are there in the Climping area?

You can explore over 450 hiking routes around Climping. The selection ranges from short, easy strolls along the beach to longer, more demanding treks inland, with more than half of the routes rated as easy.
