Archaeological finds confirm settlement in the area in the Neolithic period. The village itself was first mentioned in 1470 and initially belonged to Duvenstedt, however, the meaning of the place name is unclear. In the 17th century, the plague, the Thirty Years' War, and the Swedish-Danish War caused great hardship. Parts of Duten and Ahrenstedt were temporarily abandoned by their residents and became deserted. In 1712, the village was again struck by the plague, and the dead were buried within the village at the Karkhoff. During the wars of the 19th century, French, Russian, Swedish, and Austrian troops were quartered in Rickert. At the end of the Franco-Prussian War, a Peace Oak was planted in 1871. This Peace Oak later became part of the coat of arms and still stands in the village center today. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickert
