The Burgberg chapel is located just outside the village of Bieber in the middle of the idyllic Spessart landscape. It used to be the "main church" of the village, but today it is mainly used on special holidays or as a backdrop for weddings. The bell, which is located in the bell tower, is still operated in the traditional way using a rope and by hand.

The very first chapel in this place dates back to the 11th century. After the Reformation, when the former Catholic church in Bieber had become the Protestant Lutherkirche, the Catholic citizens fought to be allowed to use at least the castle hill chapel for services. However, this right was only granted to them in 1660. For almost two hundred years, the miners working in the area, who were largely migrant workers from the Catholic Kahlgrund, were pastorally cared for in the castle hill chapel, which is dedicated to St. Mauritius – the patron saint of miners.
