The small castle was first mentioned in 1365 in the possession of Wilhelm von Berg as Jüliches Lehen. Historians assume that the castle was the ancestral home of those of Schwerfen.

Hiking

The Gülichsburg plays a decisive role in the history of Schwerfen. It was built as a proven castle with a moat. The oldest surviving part of the castle was built at the beginning of the 16th century. A beautiful multi-storey building with a steep gabled roof and a wide chimney. In 1638, a squire, Engelbert von Gülich from Berg near Floisdorf, acquired the complex. This gave rise to the name Gülichsburg. Source: eifel.de/go/orte-detail/53909_schwerfen.html
