The Ponte Sisto is a bridge in the historic center of Rome, which crosses the Tiber River and connects Piazza Trilussa with Via del Pettinari in the Trastevere neighborhood. Its construction occurred between 1473 and 1479, commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV, to whom it owes its name. Architect Baccio Pontelli reused the foundations of an ancient Roman bridge, the Pons Aurelius, which was also known as Pons Antoninus and had been destroyed during the early Middle Ages.
