The Lauenturm is part of the city fortifications of Bautzen. The tower got its name from the heraldic animal of the Kingdom of Bohemia, a lion.

    An impressive tower!

The tower was built between 1400-1403. It is 53 m high. After a fire in 1720, the roof was destroyed and the tower was given its current baroque dome. Today there is a miniature exhibition in the tower. The portrait of the Saxon King Albert from 1913 is striking.
