If you are looking for a challenging jogging experience, the Satwiwa to Tri-Peaks Trail offers a demanding route through the Santa Monica Mountains. This difficult trail covers 10.2 miles (16.5 km) and involves a significant elevation gain of 2527 feet (770 metres), typically taking around 2 hours and 17 minutes to complete. As you jog, you will pass through open fields and meadows, catching glimpses of Boney Mountain before the ascent to Tri Peaks Summit, where panoramic views of the Conejo Valley await.
Planning your visit is straightforward, with parking readily available at the Wendy Trailhead, a common starting point for this area. Be prepared for a rigorous workout, as the final stretch to Tri-Peaks is particularly demanding due to loose rock and dirt. Some sections, especially the spur to Tri-Peaks, are rugged and less maintained, so ensure you are fit and agile enough for the final climb.
This route is best suited for experienced joggers who appreciate diverse and expansive vistas. On clear days from the summit, you might even spot the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Keep an eye out for coastal chaparral, impressive rock formations, and vibrant wildflowers, especially if you visit during the spring season.
