The village of Montegrosso was born in the early 1930s at the behest of the Opera Nazionale dei Combattenti. The intent was to populate it with farmhouses to be assigned to ex-combatants. It was completed in the 1950s by the Ente Riforma on an existing village. This was in the past a collection and storage center for agricultural production in the area. Montegrosso, in fact, was an area of transhumance, a junction along the tratturo that connected Ruvo to Canosa di Puglia.
