From a historical point of view, this memorial should not be overlooked. The way out of the old town leads below the main street along the lake almost directly to the monument, which was donated by South Tyroleans from Meran. It is a reminder and at the same time a reminder of a terrible time of war among the peoples of Europe.

Luxembourg's Michel Eiffes then approached him and gave him the coup de grace by shooting him in the left temple. Eiffes had been enlisted in the French army in 1800, although he wished to avoid this compulsory service. He died 35 years after Hofer's execution at the age of 66 and was a well-respected war veteran in his Luxembourgian hometown of Beaufort, where he worked as an innkeeper and mayor.
