The tower is an extremely massive construction, with walls approximately 3.60 meters thick. It is hypothesized that it was built in the 13th century from an analysis carried out on its base (still visible today) very similar to that of Matigge's tower. Other studies justify the construction of the Tower as a guard post for the bridge over the Timia river following the construction of an early medieval variant (9th-10th century) of the Flaminia Vetus. A final hypothesis, according to some, would see the tower built even in Roman times.
