The building is a three-aisled pseudo-basilica with a three-sided choir, constructed of brick and sandstone. The west facade, made of Ledian stone, is characterized by an octagonal tower with a pear-shaped slate spire and Baroque reminiscences. Inside, you'll find a rich interior with Bohemian vaults, rococo corbels, and paintings from 1785.

The parish of Gijzegem already existed in the 14th century. The first documented pastor dates from 1562. The church became dilapidated in the 18th century and was demolished in 1771. A new church, designed by Philippus Gobert, was built. This was completed in 1772.
