The library building, erected between 1528 and 1530 under Elector Ludwig V, once served as the private palace library. The late Gothic structure sits atop the old castle walls between the Rupert's Wing and the Ladies' Quarters. The ground floor housed archives, treasury, and art collections, while the upper floor contained an impressive library hall, approximately 6.6 meters high, adorned with murals. After suffering damage during the War of the Palatine Succession, the building was simplified and rebuilt without its original court galleries.

Hiking

The library building at Heidelberg Castle was built in 1530 by Ludwig V. This part of the castle consisted of three floors with vaulted ceilings. A former heating system has still been preserved to this day. This system can still be seen on the 1st and 3rd floors through 2 open fireplaces. It is the first of all the palaces to stand out visually. You can look inside through the torn outer wall.
