This route really does go through someone's garden. The sign says "you need to go through someone's garden". It's not lying. In a few meters you'll be thinking "wow, am I in someone's front garden?" The answer is yes, you are. Then you'll be thinking "am I supposed to be walking through this person's front garden?" Again, yes. The route goes through someone's garden.
