    Hiking

The Rauber ruins are exactly how you would imagine a castle ruin to be: somewhat hidden in the forest, already half reclaimed by nature, but still enough masonry visible to get an idea of what the castle once was like. Access is via a wooden bridge. So if you can't imagine yourself back in the days of the robber barons... ;)

A very special ruin for me. The way there is beautiful. The situation is almost mystical. Definitely worth seeing.

The ruin Diepoldsburg is a double castle, which consists of the Upper Diepoldsburg and the Lower Diepoldsburg, also called castle Rauber.

The castle is said to have been built by the Knights of Diepholdsburg around 1210, a "Ulrich de Diepoltsburc" is mentioned in 1215 as the owner. The castle collapsed in the 16th century and the surrounding walls were restored from 1964 to 1965. The castle got its second name Rauber because of its use as a robber baron castle.
