The Metropolitan Church of Vathy (also known as the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos or Panagia Linovrochia), located in a narrow alley on the edge of the bay.
The striking, free-standing tower dates from 1820 and shows clear Venetian influences with Gothic stone details, and is considered one of the city's landmarks, visible from afar upon entering the harbor.
The present church was built in the year 1800 and stands on the site of an older house of worship that was destroyed in the severe earthquake of 1953.
