A church in Wiesenthau is mentioned in documents as early as 1410. This also served as the castle church, but even then it was outside the castle walls; the tower and the west wall of today's church are partly from this older church. The church was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded, the last major church renovation took place in the years 2011-14 and was completed with the consecration of the new people's altar in March 2014.

Even before the year 1410, a document mentioning a church in Wiesenthau, this also served as a castle church, but even then was already outside the castle walls; The tower and the western wall of the present church are partly from this older church.
