Witches’ Dance Floor Neuerburg

Highlight • Monument

Initiated by the novel "Hexenliebe" by the writer Marita Spang, the hostel parents of the youth castle Sonja and Volker Krump, in cooperation with the tourism association, the Eifelverein, the castle support association and the city of Neuerburg, designed the witch dance place with a sculpture and information boards .
The sculpture, created by the stonemason Lisa Tauer and the blacksmith Benjamin Mutz, symbolizes the pillar in the form of a pentagram, the cornerstone of the cult of witches and the worship of Satan, as does the inset iron pentagram. The figures represent dancing witches, but are shaped in the form of angels to symbolize that the vilified women were actually innocent. The sculpture, which stands on Hexentanzplatz and on the award-winning “Neuer-Burg-Weg”, is intended to remind of the unfortunate events in Neuerburg's history, along with information boards about “crime scenes” in the Neuerburg witch trials of the 17th century.
