Schozach Valley Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

The cycle path through the Schozach valley runs along the former railway line of the Marbach - Heilbronn/South line. As is usual, railway lines have only slight inclines and declines, making it ideal for cycling. Between the Öttinger Mühle and just before the Schozacher Bahnhöfle, the cycle path leaves the former route, which in this area once led through the current gravel works on the other side of the stream.

View of Beilstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

Little is known about the origins of Beilstein, but it is assumed that it was a castle settlement that developed at the foot of the castle hill in the High Middle Ages. Around 1150 a Dietrich von Beilstein is mentioned, in 1231 a Count Berthold von Beilstein appears. Excavation finds suggest that the first Romanesque fortifications were built around 1070–1080.
Beilstein was already mentioned as a town in 1304.
The city suffered heavily during the 30 Years' War, in which it was looted and burned down several times.

View of Hohenbeilstein Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the Wartkopf you have a beautiful view of the castle Hohenbeilstein, the Wunnenstein and the Neckar valley. Also the Burcg Lichtenberg opposite is good to make out. Up on the plateau of the mountain there are a few small trails to drive.

View of Burg Wildeck

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the cycle path you have a great view of Wildeck Castle. The residential tower castle from the 12th century sits on a vineyard above Abstatt. Even though the tower is not accessible, the freely accessible castle courtyard offers a beautiful view of the wine landscape in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park.
