At the junction Hauptstrasse / Neugasse, not far from the harbor, is the Jakobsbrunnen from the 19th century in memory of the Jakobskapelle, an early medieval resting place for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. The Jakobsbrunnen is crowned by the Jakobsfigur and the bell in the fountain pillar has been ringed twice daily by hand for decades. The bell still calls to Ave every day at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is reminiscent of its inscription: "St. Jakobus, ora pro nobis".
The fountain forms the starting point of the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela.
