Technically not difficult hike on this section of the Meraner Höhenweg. On the one hand, the southern part of the Meraner Höhenweg, which can be walked almost all year round, ends in Katharinaberg. On the other hand, the northern part of the Meraner Höhenweg begins in Katharinaberg, which leads over the Eisjoch (altitude approx. 2,900 m) and is not accessible from the first snowfall until late spring due to the considerable altitude. The Meraner Höhenweg is one of the most beautiful and varied long-distance hiking trails, not only in relation to the Alps. It is approx. 100 km long and has a difference in altitude (ascent and descent) of approx. 5000 m. Among the numerous rest stops is the Linthof, high above Naturns, one of the best with a wonderful view of the Lower Vinschgau, the mountain peaks belonging to the Ortler group (Hasenohr, Laaser Spitze and Cevedale 3,770 m) as well as the medieval Juval Castle, which is about 500 m below. Tibetika Museum and residence of the former extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner.
We've been wanting to hike the Merano High Trail for a long time, but the idea of having to sleep in the huts puts us off. Therefore, we're doing one or two stages each time, today from Katharinaberg to Unterstell.

New and exciting were the cows, sheep, cats, and the large, free-roaming local male that harassed her right at the parking lot. He just hung on her rear end.🤣
