Promenade des Anglais

Highlight • Cycleway

It was at the beginning of the 19th century that the British enthusiasm for the town in the Alpes Maritimes really took off. It was primarily the English aristocrats who came to spend their vacations in Nice, before this practice gradually became more widespread. This is the origin of the name of this famous Nice promenade.

The best view you can have of this magnificent bay which has made Nice so popular is by climbing the corniche just after “Old Nice”.

Castle Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

A must see when visiting Nice, however a word of warning, it's not always turned on, presumably for cleaning.

We visited during the hottest part of the day, so allowing the spray from the waterfall to hit us was incredibly refreshing. The views from the top are spectacular too, we must have spent an hour and a half just admiring the views out over Nice.

Historically, this port was the largest fishing port in the Alpes-Maritimes in the 1920s and 1930s, and it still maintains a professional fishing industry today. Cros-de-Cagnes is known for its fishing village and maritime traditions. You can even find a Cros de Cagnes Fishermen's Market located on Rue du Capitaine de Frégate Vial, where you can buy fresh fish and seafood directly from local fishermen. This market is generally open from Tuesday to Sunday mornings. There are also initiatives to preserve maritime heritage, such as the restoration of the Sainte-Thérèse lobster boat, a traditional fishing boat. For those interested in learning how to fish or taking a sea trip, there are opportunities for boat trips or fishing trips, particularly from nearby Saint-Laurent-du-Var.
