August 15, 2026, Garden City Lands

Garden City Lands is a 55-hectare open space in central Richmond, combining urban agriculture, preserved bog habitat and a network of trails. The main perimeter trail is about 2.9 kilometres and is shared by people walking and cycling, with wide views across the open landscape. It feels surprisingly spacious for somewhere so close to the city centre, and the mix of farmland and wetland makes this a good spot for birdlife too.

The bog is one of the most distinctive parts of Garden City Lands, preserving a remnant of Richmond’s original peatland landscape within the city. The open ground, low vegetation and wetter soils feel very different from the agricultural areas nearby, and the trails give you a good look across that change in habitat. It’s also an important conservation area, so stay on the designated paths as you pass through.

You can find a mix of flat gravel trails connecting a boardwalk and wildlife viewing area, community garden, playground and restrooms. The small spiral trail up a low hill on the west side of the park is a great spot from which to watch the sunset.
