The ruins of Milkbank House nestling in the woods in a commanding position overlooking a sweeping bend of the Water of Milk. Built in the Scottish Baronial style, what remains is a heady mix of crow-stepped gables, turrets, hanging fireplaces and porte cochere (carriage porch).

The small ruin of the 12th - century St Mungo's kirk, sitting alone on a knoll on the north bank of the river. The kirk was donated by the Bruce family to the bishops of Glasgow, hence its dedication: St Mungo is the patron saint and founder of the City of Glasgow. Today the only remnant of any substance is the east gable wall, housing numerous dedications to the Jardine family who hail from these parts, the best known being Lochmaben-born William Jardine, opium trader and co-founder of Jardine Matheson, the successful Hong Kong based trading dynasty.
