You pass this point where the canal meets the Ulverston Channel on the Cumbria Coastal Way. The view over the water is wonderful. There are benches for picnics here.

Founded in the 12th century, the priory functioned as a hospital for the 'poor, decrepit, indigent and lepers'. Today, it still enjoys the same fine views across the Leven Estuary. The house on the site of the priory was built as a private residence in 1821. It has had multiple uses in its two centuries of existence. Its most recent incarnation is as the Manjushri Buddhist Centre, having previously been a hydro and a Durham miners' convalescence home. For opening days and tour times, ring 01229 584029.
