From October 1944 to April 1945, a subcamp of the Natzweiler/Alsace concentration camp operated in Unterriexingen as a subcamp of the Wiesengrund concentration camp in Vaihingen an der Enz. At the end of 1944, approximately 500 Jewish prisoners were employed for forced labor (at the Großsachsenheim air base, tunnel construction for an underground munitions factory, barrack construction, quarry work, and clearing work after air raids in Stuttgart and the surrounding area). In early 1945, 150 to 200 Polish prisoners (survivors of the Warsaw Uprising) and other forced laborers of other origins were added. Due to the catastrophic living and working conditions, at least 250 prisoners died and are buried in a mass grave near Unterriexingen (memorial site).
