We were here in April 2026. Unfortunately, the hiking trail is not in good condition. The descent to the waterfall is quite steep but passable. The paths to the stairs of the Riscos de la Perereda are all overgrown, and only a shortened path past an old mill back to the parking lot is passable.

An easy hike with kids and a wonderful place to visit. It is truly a magical natural place. Can be crowded at times. Please leave it cleaner than you found it.

Natural pool located in the municipality of Planes d'Hostoles. It is in the course of the Brugent river and when it takes enough water, it forms a waterfall of considerable dimensions that make this place a spectacular site. Its access is from Via Verde from El Carrilet de Girona to Olot.

The most spectacular views of the waterfalls, especially of Sallent Waterfall and Salt del Molí Bernat, are typically after periods of significant rainfall or snowmelt. This ensures the cascades are flowing at their fullest. Spring offers lush greenery and blooming flowers, while summer can be crowded, sometimes requiring reservations for popular spots like La Plana Pool.
Yes, La Foradada Waterfall and Mill is known for its easy hike and is suitable for families with children. Another excellent option for families is La Plana Pool, which is formed by two waterfalls and is the easiest to access among the pools in Les Planes d'Hostoles.
Some natural pools are suitable for swimming, offering a refreshing experience. Molí dels Murris Pool and La Plana Pool are noted for their tranquil waters and are popular spots for enjoying the natural environment. However, always check local signage as bathing may be prohibited in certain protected areas, such as at La Foradada Waterfall and Mill.
The region offers a variety of hiking trails, from easy family walks to more challenging routes. For instance, a challenging 13 km route from Tavertet takes you past the spectacular Salt del Molí Bernat and includes a return path via a Roman bridge. Many trails showcase the region's dramatic landscapes, including lush forests and impressive geological formations. You can find more hiking options on the Hiking around Tavertet guide.
Yes, La Foradada Waterfall and Mill is a notable historical site, featuring an old mill alongside the waterfall. Additionally, the hike to Sallent Waterfall often starts from the medieval town of Rupit and can include views of the hermitage of Sant Joan de Fàbregues.
The Sallent Waterfall is Catalonia's highest, with a free fall of over 100 meters, making it incredibly spectacular, especially after rain. Another impressive cascade is the Salt del Molí Bernat, an overhanging waterfall of about 70 meters, visible from viewpoints like Mirador del Sot de Balà.
While many outdoor areas in Catalonia are dog-friendly, specific regulations can vary by location, especially in protected natural reserves. It's always best to check local signage at trailheads or official park websites for the most current information regarding pet policies before visiting a specific waterfall or natural pool.
Beyond hiking, the Tavertet area offers opportunities for various outdoor activities. You can explore running trails, such as the 'Salto de Sallent y Sant Joan de Fàbregues' circular trail run from Rupit, detailed in the Running Trails around Tavertet guide. Yes, at Molí dels Murris Pool, the waters of the Cogolls stream are rich in dissolved calcium bicarbonate, which creates unique travertine formations by petrifying plants and shaping the landscape. These 'Els Travertins' add a distinctive natural appeal to the area.
Tavertet is a village perched on cliffs, and while it's a gateway to many waterfalls, direct public transport options to specific waterfall trailheads can be limited. It's generally recommended to check local bus schedules to Tavertet village itself, and then plan for hiking or other transport to reach the waterfalls. Some popular starting points for hikes, like Rupit for Sallent Waterfall, might have better public transport connections.
Given the varied terrain and potential for wet conditions, especially after rain, it's advisable to wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots. Layers of clothing are recommended to adapt to changing temperatures, and a waterproof jacket is essential. If you plan on swimming in any permitted pools, bring appropriate swimwear and a towel.
