Matthew
May 27, 2024, Goosepond Mountain State Park Forest Trail

Goosepond Mountain State Park encompasses over 1,700 acres of undeveloped land with some great trails and service roads for hiking. The property is mostly forest, so open views are hard to come by, but it's also easy to become immersed in the wilderness experience. You can do out-and-back hikes or create different loops by combining some of the trails and service roads.

Little Dam Lake is just barely big enough to be considered a lake. What it lacks in size, though, it makes up for in character. This thin lake creates a sort of horseshoe with a few different branches creating small coves. The Appalachian Trail momentarily brushes the banks of the water on the northern side; otherwise, this quiet body of water keeps to itself.

This spot on the Appalachian Trail is a popular turn around for most crowds. You can get right up to the base of this sizable cascade, and know that the waterfall flows a lot stronger in the wet season. If you want to extend your hike, you can walk further out for miles and miles on the Appalachian Trail. Regardless of the time of year, you'll likely see others out on the trail.
