Community: Marbach an der Donau Time category: 18th century, 1st half Chronicle: This crucifixion group was first mentioned in documents in 1721. At that time, the Christian year of the church included sustained and moving pilgrimages. Above the parish church, which was built almost onto the steep, towering rock face, the three crosses on Calvary Hill found their Christian place. In reference to the geology of the material of the rock face, renovations and safety measures must and are constantly being carried out. Description: North-west of the parish church, which is dedicated to Bishop Martin of Tours, on top of the steep rock, there is a crucifixion group made of three wooden crosses, with a Corpus Christi made of cast metal attached to the middle and larger cross. Below the Corpus Christi there is a depiction of an angel's head that is closely connected to the religious history of this region and that of Maria Taferl. Next to the baroque parish church, which was built as a private church in the 9th century, is the Marbach an der Donau war memorial. Between the two buildings (parish church and war memorial) you can reach the Calvary Hill with a tangible view of the Danube after climbing about 100 devout steps. An easier walk leads from the "Frieseneggstraße" along the path "Am Kalvarienberg" to Golgotha. The gate to the churchyard is crowned by a baroque stone sculpture "St. Martin in bishop's robes with goose".

Why would anyone recommend a mountain bike ride when cycling is prohibited throughout the forest is beyond me.

The "Millennium Summit Cross" Weissenberg⛰️ is definitely worth a hike. The path through the impressive forest with its great moss and lush green tones is enough of an atmosphere to come "down" - in this case "up".😅 A very beautiful and easy to reach summit cross.😉👍🏻☀️🧡

The "Skull" really looks a bit scary.😅 If you go to the back of the impressive rock formation, you can climb the "Drachenstein" using the stairs...but ⚠️Be careful...when it's wet, the stones are pretty slippery . Surefootedness and smart footwear are also highly recommended.😉☀️🧡
