There's also a beer garden at the lake where you can refuel (check opening hours!). If you prefer something a little quieter, you can find a spot on the shore at the northern end, for example. When I was there in early October, the lake wasn't too busy despite the excellent weather, and there were plenty of dragonflies flitting around, and you could watch birds catching fish. It's perfect for enjoying nature without having to drive or hike far from the city.

St. Emmeram's Bridge, Munich, officially inaugurated on May 13, 2005 St. Emmeram (Emmeran), one of the Three Apostles of Bavaria and Bishop of Poitiers, worked in Bavaria around 700. He founded a monastery in Regensburg, from which the former Imperial Abbey of St. Emmeram emerged. He was martyred in Kleinhelfendorf (south of Aying) in 716, falsely accused. He was initially buried in Aschheim and later transferred to Regensburg. Feast of the Catholic saint: September 22. Notes on the bridge: The 96 m long wooden truss bridge, built on this site in 1978, was completely destroyed by arson in 2002. In 2003, the city council decided to rebuild the bridge on the same site. The new bridge is a delicate truss structure made of wood and steel and is covered over its entire length. It was opened for use on December 22, 2004, and officially inaugurated on May 13, 2005. Text / Source: Munich City History https://stadtgeschichte-muenchen.de/strassen/d_strasse.php?id=6041

Isar (River), Munich At 300 km long, the Isar is the longest river in Munich. After the Danube, the Inn, and the Main, the Isar is the fourth-longest river in Bavaria. It originates in Austria in the Karwendel Mountains near Scharnitz. Between Mittenwald and Krün, at river kilometer 251.5, it is dammed by five meters by the Krün weir to reach the Isar Reservoir, 870 m above sea level. From there, it is diverted into a canal to produce energy, leaving a minimum residual flow of between 3 and 4.8 m³/s to Lake Walchen. It then flows through Landshut, Dingolfing, Landau an der Isar, and Plattling, among other places. After a total length of 295 kilometers, it flows into the Danube northeast of Munich and southeast of Deggendorf near Moos. Its two largest tributaries are the Loisach and the Amper. The Isar River has been somewhat renaturalized in the Munich metropolitan area in recent years. Text/Source: Muenchenwiki.de/wiki/Isar https://www.muenchenwiki.de/wiki/Isar

Middle Isar Canal (River), Munich Project Reason - Ecology, Leisure and Recreation The section of the river from the Oberföhring weir on the Munich city limits to beyond Moosburg (river kilometers 142.9 to 78.25) is known as the Middle Isar. Until the mid-19th century, the Isar here exhibited all the classic characteristics of a pre-Alpine river, characterized by highly fluctuating discharges and high bedloads. With the construction of the Oberföhring weir in 1924/28, the river was dammed, and up to 150 cubic meters of Isar water per second were diverted into the so-called Middle Isar Canal with five barrages between Munich and Moosburg. Its fate as a canalized river with straight, steep, and heavily reinforced banks seemed to be cemented forever. Not only did the riverbed deepen significantly as a result of the straightening, but groundwater levels and flooding in the floodplain also declined. The constant exchange between the river and the floodplain, as well as the structural connection of tributaries, ceased over time. Numerous weirs and drop structures were built to counteract the deepening. These barriers were well-intentioned, but they prevent fish and small organisms in the riverbed from migrating upstream and downstream. https://www.wwa-m.bayern.de/projekte/gek_mittlere_isar/index.htm#:~:text=With%20the%20construction%20of%20the%20weir%20system%20Oberf%C3%B6hring%20in%20the,with%20five%20barrages%20between%20Munich%20and%20Moosburg%20derived.
