The Rumpenheim Palace Park in the Offenbach district of Rumpenheim is a historically and botanically significant park area of around eleven hectares directly on the banks of the Main River. Its origins date back to the late 18th century, when the adjacent Rumpenheim Palace was expanded into the residence of the House of Hesse-Kassel. Originally laid out as a French Baroque garden, Landgrave Frederick III of Hesse-Kassel had the area redesigned from 1788 onwards into an English landscape garden, which to this day is characterized by winding paths, wide vistas, and seemingly natural landscapes. In the course of the 19th century, the park developed into a glamorous meeting place for European high nobility, as the Hessian landgravial family was closely related to the royal houses of Denmark, Great Britain, and Russia – prominent guests such as the Danish King Christian IX or the Russian tsarist family regularly strolled through the avenues. Among the botanical đặc điểm of the park are the partly centuries-old solitary trees, including majestic plane trees, copper beeches, ginkgos, and rare tulip trees. After the destruction of World War II and a period of decay in the post-war period, the park has been elaborately reconstructed in recent decades based on historical models. Today, the freely accessible palace park, together with the palace, the Protestant palace church, and the historic stable, forms a harmonious overall ensemble that serves both as a valuable cultural monument and as a popular local recreation area for walkers.

This section leads you through picturesque scattered orchards. Until around 1800, wine was grown here – a tradition that gradually disappeared with the end of noble vineyard owners. Without lords, staff, and consumers, the vineyards were converted into arable land and scattered orchards. The era of Hessian apple wine began. Today, old fruit trees shape the wild meadow landscape on the outskirts of Mühlheim.

The riverside path along the Rodau leads through the mill district of Mühlheim am Main, which once gave the town its name. Up to ten mills once clattered here on the Rodau and Bieber. The last remaining and still functional mill is the Brückenmühle, whose mill wheel still turns today.
