Without the footbridges and stairs, the gorge would not be accessible.

We did the hike in October 2025, starting in Xiro Chorio and going clockwise to Chromonastiri, then back through the Mili Gorge. We started on a wide gravel track up to Chromonastiri, and from there descended on a rather overgrown path to the upper entrance of the gorge. The path through the gorge is sometimes difficult to discern, and the railings and rest areas, built in 2015, are in very poor condition, some broken and unusable. The ruins of the mills exude a certain morbid charm and are well worth seeing. Conclusion: A fairly nice hike, but not really a highlight or a "must-do" in Crete for me. 🌟🌟🌟out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A hike through the challenging gorge is highly recommended! Sturdy shoes and a good level of fitness are essential, however.
