Montemarcello is a splendid hilltop hamlet in the municipality of Ameglia, located in the province of La Spezia in Liguria. Perched on the promontory of Mount Caprione, this ancient medieval village is officially part of the circuit of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and offers a spectacular panoramic view stretching from the Gulf of Poets to the Apuan Alps and the Magra Valley. The village is entirely pedestrianized, characterized by paved alleys (the typical Ligurian 'carruggi') and colorful stone houses, and is immersed in the heart of the Montemarcello-Magra-Vara Regional Natural Park. An urban structure with a quadrangular plan that echoes the original ancient Roman 'castrum'. You walk among meticulously maintained historic houses, stone arches, and intimate little squares. Church of San Pietro: The most important religious building in the village. It houses precious works of art, including a marble statue of the Saint on the facade.

The church was originally built in 1474 in Renaissance forms. A subsequent phase of renovation and expansion in Baroque forms took place between 1643 and 1683. On this occasion, its orientation was also changed. The church is listed by the FAI The current pink facade presents the usual forms of the 17th century, in two orders divided by pilasters with simple Ionic capitals and festoons. In the center of the Baroque portal, a marble bas-relief depicts a monstrance. Above the portal, in a niche, is the statue of Saint Peter and higher up a Baroque quatrefoil window illuminates the interior. The crowning of the facade is given by a curvilinear pediment flanked by two pinnacles at the ends. The wooden door (20th century) dedicated to Mary Mother of the Church is the work of the sculptor Italo Bernardini.
