The ascent is steep and rocky, but you will be rewarded with a fantastic view. From Piazza Matteotti, the ascent via the hiking trail takes about 1h30. For the way back, the city bus line E is also an option, which has its final stop below the hermitage (Eremo). The bus runs every half hour, but not between 12:30 and 15:30. The only non-Franciscan church in Assisi. The Benedictines were the original owners of the Porziuncola chapel in Santa Maria degli Angeli.
