Tips from the Community

The woodland trails here to the north of Duncan make for a pleasant amble. Expect undulating, shaded trails and delightful fir trees. A short loop of the woodland's western end is popular or you can start from Mum's Park to the northeast and enjoy a longer hike.

Maple Bay Beach is nestled in a small seaside community of a deep-water inlet in the Sansum Narrows. It is sheltered by surrounding land and Salt Spring Island, which usually gives it calmer waters.

A small DAY USE only park providing a sanctuary for Douglas fir forest, as well as lakeside beach access on the northwest shores of Shawnigan Lake. This popular summer recreation area offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including swimming, paddling and fishing in the trout-stocked waters. Park facilities include pit toilets, picnic tables and short walking trails. Park staff arrive at sunset to close the park and ensure nobody is camping.
