Tips from the Community

April 3, 2025, Pakuʻi (Second Peak of Olomana)

If you were fine getting to the first peak then you'll be able to get here without too much difficulty as well. Be aware that the third peak is considerably more dangerous (although not particularly physically difficult).

Pa Launa is the main area of the Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden and is located right next to the Visitor Center and its parking lot. Take a stroll through beautiful plants and educate yourself about the local flora and fauna at the information plaques.

October 4, 2023, Pali Puka

Pali Puka is located at Koʻolau Summit and is a natural window inside the mountain. Looking through the window, you get a great overlook. Please be aware, that the hike to the summit is very steep and as you're walking on the ridge most of the time, this hike is not for those who are afraid of heights. There are multiple sections, where you will walk right next to the cliff that drops off more than 1,000 feet.

Likeke Falls is a two-tiered waterfall with a total height of about 20 feet. It is located in the east of Oʻahu and can easily be reached from Kailua. The waterfall might not be the biggest one on the island but it's still a very impressive sight to visit and the big plus is its accessibility with just a short hike from the nearby golf course.

Pakuʻi is the name of the second peak of Olomana. To get here from the first peak, only takes a very short hike but the views will certainly get better. From here you can see the ridge-line to the third peak. Please be aware, that the hike to the third peak should only be attended by experienced hikers.

Even though the whole set of mountains is called 'Olomana' by most people, Mount Olomana is actually only the first of three peaks. Compared to peak two and three, it's relatively easy to reach the first peak and even if you don't plan to climb any further, you will already receive a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

Even though you don't need any special experience to hike along Olomana Trail, you should be aware that this trail includes very steep inclines and you need to climb up some boulders, with ropes helping you. If you don't have any experience, that might be a little challenge. But as a reward, you will get amazing views along the hike to the different peaks.

Free entry and a fantastic setting. A must see on Oahu. Unfortunately, stopping in the entrance area for a photo is forbidden, there were too many who stopped for Instagram.
