Seathwaite Farm

Highlight • Parking

Seathwaite Farm is the access point for many of the high fells, including the Scafells and Great Gable. Parking at the farm car park rather than on the road means less congestion on the narrow lanes and it also supports the local hill farmer – it's only a fiver. There's also a small campsite here.

YHA Black Sail Hostel

Highlight • Rest Area

Few youth hostels are as remote as Black Sail, only accessible by foot or by bike. Towards the head of the wild Ennerdale Valley, the hostel is wonderfully located for many of the classic fells of the western Lake District.

It is only a small hostel, with 16 beds in total. The heart of the place is the common room, whilst that all-important drying room is also present. There's a self-catering kitchen, though meals can also be arranged with the wardens. Note that there are no electric sockets in the building.

During the winter months it is possible to arrange a private hire of the entire hostel.
