Preveli Beach and Palm Forest

Highlight • Beach

Very nice beach. But even in the low season there is a lot going on.
For some circular hikes, the river has to be crossed.
But now there is so much water in the river that my bathing suit almost gets wet.
It's fun to wade through the river with the current, but maybe not everyone wants to do it.

Climb to the roof of CRETE, climb the highest mountain, the "Psiloritis" (2456m), climbing just under 5km/900m (category black/difficult). Very few people, just a few nice pilgrims and hikers. During a half-hour break on the summit, the weather changed quite quickly, as often happens around midday, and the summit was completely covered in clouds. Without a hiking GPS, the way back is quite difficult, so this is recommended...
our data: ascent in 2.5 hours, descent 2 hours

Another recommendation is the tour to the Gingilos

Ruins of Samaria Village

Highlight • Historical Site

This is where the gorge supervisors have their base and, in an emergency, a rescue helicopter can also land here. But mainly, the deserted mountain village is a great place for a picnic. There are benches, drinking water, rubbish bins and a toilet house - what more could you ask for.

Imbros Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

From this point of origin, which is very far to the west,> A path leads uphill from the village, which then ends with a pasture fence. A goat owner blocked the way through high fences, which was not easy to overcome. Careful biting dog, luckily at the cottage. You then reach a road that leads to the upper entrance of the gorge. Many kilometers you go along the road, which reaches the height in serpentine. Then way down through the canyon is beautiful, especially the rock formations and the play of light and shadow. There is a choice at the exit of the gorge. The uncomfortable way or the road. From the exit of the gorge, there are also opportunities for driving up to the entrance, which significantly shortens the matter.

You can always come across mill ruins like these in this valley.

Kritsa Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

Very nice relaxed tour. The canyon is easy to walk through, only light climbing at first.
The mountain village tapes is not necessarily worth the effort to "climb" it. And the way back to the right over the gorge back to the starting point is partly downhill unclear, typically Cretan adventurous.

November 5, 2025, Restored Watermill in Muloi Gorge

We did the hike in October 2025, starting in Xiro Chorio and going clockwise to Chromonastiri, then back through the Mili Gorge. We started on a wide gravel track up to Chromonastiri, and from there descended on a rather overgrown path to the upper entrance of the gorge. The path through the gorge is sometimes difficult to discern, and the railings and rest areas, built in 2015, are in very poor condition, some broken and unusable. The ruins of the mills exude a certain morbid charm and are well worth seeing. Conclusion: A fairly nice hike, but not really a highlight or a "must-do" in Crete for me. 🌟🌟🌟out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Apart from a few millstones, the interior contains nothing that would illustrate the technology.

The climb to Crete's highest mountain is certainly one of the highlights of a holiday on the island. The shortest and best route starts at the Mygero Refuge (an investment ruin, a shame). At the beginning the path is clearly visible (paved), later it becomes more confusing. You should plan on 5 - 6 hours for the journey there and back, there is an altitude difference of around 850 meters. Sufficient water and weatherproof clothing are a given. But the mountain is also a real eye-catcher from a distance. Before you start the climb, get weather information. A dream route with sun and little wind.

The main path leads past on the left. A narrow side path goes directly under the bridge.
