Bronze statue at Munich stadium commemorates the "Kaiser" New Franz Beckenbauer monument unveiled in front of the Allianz Arena Franz Beckenbauer died on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 78. On September 12, 2025, a statue of the "Kaiser" was ceremoniously unveiled in front of the Bayern stadium in Fröttmaning. Additionally, on May 1, a section of Werner Heisenberg Allee was officially renamed Franz Beckenbauer Platz, and a street sign also commemorates the football idol. All visitors to the Allianz Arena can admire a new landmark in Fröttmaning: Since September, a bronze statue of Franz Beckenbauer has stood in front of the FC Bayern stadium. The work by artist Matilde Romagnoli, which took 14 months to create, is 4.2 meters high and weighs 1.2 tons. Friends and officials from FC Bayern, as well as some of Beckenbauer's family members, were present at the official unveiling of the statue. "As a family, we are very happy about the statue, which gives our favorite person a worthy place in front of the stadium," said Beckenbauer's widow Heidi. And FCB President Herbert Hainer added: "Just like the Kurt Landauer statue on Säbener Straße and the sculpture of Gerd Müller, this work of art is also a gift. A gift from fans for fans, in the spirit of Franz Beckenbauer. This way, Franz will always remain a part of everyone who means well for FC Bayern."
