Amazing tour and the view is stunning. Unfortunately the path leaving to Tennerifes Matterhorn is blocked about 500 meter due to landslide, but dont give up!! Instead of taking the trail showed on the kommoot gps from the village to the iconic mountain just take a slightly different route. Walk instead to the viewpoint well signed (just follow the paved path going up in the village) from the viewpoint take the stairs down and now you are on track again. Highly rekommandated route -but would not go with small children because I am a bit afraid of hights. Anyway the trail felt safe doing a Sunny day.

Tenerife offers a vast network of hiking trails accessible by bus. Our guide features over 2100 routes that you can reach directly from bus stations, catering to a wide range of preferences and skill levels.
The bus-accessible hikes in Tenerife vary significantly in difficulty. You'll find a good mix, with approximately 800 easy routes perfect for beginners or a relaxed stroll, over 1000 moderate trails for those seeking a bit more challenge, and nearly 300 difficult routes for experienced hikers looking for a strenuous adventure.
Yes, there are several easy circular routes accessible by bus. For a pleasant and relatively flat walk, consider the Malpais de Guimar - circular from El Puertito de Guimar. This route is rated easy and offers unique volcanic landscapes.
Absolutely. Many trails are suitable for families. The Malpais de Guimar - circular from El Puertito de Guimar is an easy option, and the Anaga Rural Park also offers gentle paths like the Sendero de los Sentidos, which are great for all ages to explore the laurel forest.
While many trails in Tenerife are dog-friendly, regulations can vary, especially within protected areas like national or rural parks. It's always best to check specific park rules or local signage for each trail. Generally, dogs should be kept on a leash to protect local wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers.
Tenerife's volcanic origin means you'll encounter incredibly diverse landscapes. On trails accessible by bus, you might see unique rock formations like Roque Cinchado in Teide National Park, or lush ancient laurel forests such as the Laurel Forest at Cruz del Carmen in Anaga Rural Park. Coastal routes offer stunning viewpoints like View of Casa Hamilton, and some areas feature interesting cave dwellings.
Yes, permits are required for some specific trails, particularly for the final ascent to the summit of Mount Teide (Pico del Teide Summit Trail) from La Rambleta. Additionally, access to certain sensitive areas within Anaga Rural Park, such as El Pijaral (The Enchanted Forest), requires a permit due to their ancient ecosystems and limited visitor numbers. Always check in advance for the specific trail you plan to hike.
Tenerife is known as the 'Island of Eternal Spring,' making it an excellent hiking destination year-round. The mild climate means you can hike comfortably in most seasons. However, spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer particularly pleasant temperatures and less crowded trails. In winter, higher altitudes like Teide National Park can be significantly colder and may experience snow, so dress in layers.
Given Tenerife's diverse microclimates, layering is key. Even on bus-accessible trails, weather can change quickly. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), plenty of water, snacks, and a waterproof jacket. For higher altitude trails, warmer layers are essential. Always check the weather forecast for your specific route.
Many popular bus station trailheads, especially in areas like Anaga Rural Park (e.g., Cruz del Carmen) or near larger towns, often have amenities such as visitor centers, cafes, or restaurants. For example, Restaurante La Cueva is a notable spot. However, for more remote routes, it's advisable to bring your own provisions as services might be limited or non-existent.
The komoot community highly rates the hiking experience in Tenerife, with an average score of 4.3 stars from over 75,000 ratings. Reviewers often praise the incredible diversity of landscapes, from the 'lunar' plains of Teide to the lush laurel forests of Anaga, and the convenience of accessing these trails via public transport.
Yes, experienced hikers can find challenging routes accessible by bus. The Afur - Taganana - Afur Circular Trail in Anaga Rural Park is a difficult route offering significant elevation changes and stunning coastal views. Another challenging option is the Vilaflor and Paisaje Lunar loop (PR TF 72), which takes you through unique volcanic scenery.
